Curriculum

The development framework we use for two, three and four year olds at the Nursery is Early Years Curriculum called The Early Years Foundation Stage.  We have’ Early Learning Goals’ which help us to plan activities and experiences for the children.

There are seven areas of learning and development:

  1. Personal, social and emotional development
  2. Communication and language
  3. Physical development
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Understanding the world
  7. Expressive arts and design

The ‘prime areas’ of learning help to ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive whilst in our care. The other four areas of learning support the strengthening and application of the prime areas.

We know that families are the first educators of a child and our staff team observe, support and extend the development and learning process throughout the time spent at Rooftops.

Early Years practitioners understand the importance of a curriculum within which each child’s individual rate of development is respected and nurtured.  Our curriculum is structured through time, space and materials to enable the children to access the necessary tools for learning.

High self esteem is important for young children and our philosophy is based upon this foundation skill.

When children feel their efforts are appreciated and see them celebrated, they develop a positive self image.

When children spend time with adults who appreciate what a child tries to do, the child feels valued.

All children have needs.  They need a safe and secure environment in which to live and play.  They need interaction with known and trusted adults to develop a framework for their own attitudes and behaviour.

They need the chance to explore their world, to learn about it and to discover their own place in it.

All staff members at Rooftops Nursery work with the belief that all children have the right to be a part of their local community and to be welcomed and included on equal terms.

We offer an inclusive approach and draw on our experience and extensive resources to create an environment within which each child can progress to his/her full potential in all areas of development.  The Nursery is arranged into workshop areas.

We pride ourselves on our reputation for:

  • Close Parent/carer relationships providing a strong basis for children’s learning.
  • Continuous staff training.
  • High quality equipment
  • Effective security
  • Staff retention

At Rooftops we monitor, evaluate, support and develop children’s skills and offer a carefully balanced programme of activities.

We provide a well balanced menu for the children, using fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meat.  We aim to avoid frozen and pre-prepared foods wherever possible.  We cater for children’s dietary needs, ensuring that each child’s differing needs and requirements are fully met.  i.e. non-dairy, vegetarian etc.  All food is prepared and cooked on site.

We are very proud of our menu and have received the ‘HEARTBEAT AWARD’ from Camden which gives recognition of our positive role in children’s health and well being.

Opening hours are from 8am to 6pm and we are open 51 weeks a year. There is a complimentary 30 minutes care every morning and evening for children who attend full time or on a full day basis.
